What To Cook Next Week, after the week that has just happened?
I have to say I woke up on Wednesday and wasn’t quite sure what to do with myself… The anticipation of and preparation for the midterm election seemed to take up all of my time and energy, and I wasn’t focused on anything but that. This year, as a complete diversion from my usual, I got involved in the election. I have to say it felt good, and it brought me closer to some pretty incredible women I otherwise may not have had time to spend quality time with.
In an effort to Get Out The Vote, we wrote postcards to voters, texted voters, called voters, and even (gulp) knocked on their doors. All of it was pretty scary at first, but the fear subsided pretty quickly and I soon realized that this is my new normal. I have always been a voter. Okay maybe not in every midterm election, but I’ve voted in most elections I’ve been of age to vote in. And that’s where my involvement ended.
Lately, it seems to like being a voter just isn’t enough for me. I need to do more. I need to rally behind the candidates I think can truly make a difference and help them in the ways that I am able. I need to educate myself about the issues. I need to share information with my friends and family and networks. This isn’t about politics, it’s just being a person who lives in this country, and choosing to take an active role in our democracy. That’s how it’s supposed to work after all, right?
That’s my take. I’ve love to hear yours, and how the past month or so went for you.
